 BLOG #2

For this second project I was actually really excited to be able to learn about the different theme presentations there was going to be. Each group was responsible for two different topics, both of which had to do with certain world problems. Our professor gave each group really well thought out themes, ones in which we would actually have to do some research and learn about in order to know what we were actually talking about, as well as to correctly inform those who would be listening. The first group was responsible for two great topics: Education, and Law and Order which included an emphasis on protests and rallies as well. The first group definitely did an amazing job with their presentation. It was set up very organized and the way they discussed the topics was intense. They used a range of information and also used a lot of pathos in order to provide emotion to those who were listening, which allowed everyone to view things with an open heart. Some of those who presented even involved personal stories, I remember when it came to the topic of protests and rallies, a student actually revealed that her best friend was having a hard time dealing with the black lives matter movement, she even revealed that she attended a protest with her in order to make sure her best friend knew she stood with her. This group was also very informative with their topics, they made sure to provide thorough analysis and up to date data to inform everyone listening. Also, this group made sure that all students were inclusive, they added a Kahoot game at the end with a variety of questions from their presentations, making a fun little knowledge challenge for the class; very well done from their part.

The second group also had a great presentation. They had to talk about health care and immigration, and I was very intrigued with their presentation because they also had a lot of great information and statistical analysis, some students even provided their personal opinions, which I think is great because as a class, even if everyone does not have the same viewpoints and such, we can all listen and hear each other out and understand where each person is coming from. I also enjoyed the way group 2 organized their presentation. It was similar to group 1 which included a video presentation followed by a youtube video relating to their topic, I believe both groups were inspired by the organizational structure of my group’s first presentation which is actually very satisfying.

The last group, which was the group I was in, also had very interesting topics, as a matter of fact, I personally believe that my group had the most intense topic, simply because it was about the pandemic and racial divides, which played a very significant role in 2020, and still continues to. Our group touched up on all the important tie ins to the pandemic, whether it was social distancing, masks, hygiene, the role of schools and jobs, the economy, etc. and when it came to racial divides there were also very important topics touched up on, including protests, police brutality, the elections, the blm movement, the defund the police issue, etc. I believe our presentation, although we ran out of time, was a very great one. We provided great information and great videos, some even very entertaining. We also were able to provide a little bit of humour while emphasizing how important our topics were.

All in all, this theme presentation was an excellent project for this fall. It provided the class with a great amount of knowledge about these important issues, and I believe we were able to learn a lot; well done by everyone.
