Blog#2
My
Speech professor assigned three topics to our class which was already divided
into three groups. Each group member had to present at least one part of their
topic. I was very excited to see what the other group came up with and how
good our group was going to do. This time, the presenting dates were
mixed up. Group three which was the last one was the first group to present.
That was also the group I was in. After us, group one presented, and lastly,
group two. We all had very interesting topics that were assigned to us.
Starting
with group one, they had “Law and Order Protest-Rallies/Educations” as their
assigned topic. That was a very interesting topic since what happened recently
here in the United States. People started to riot in the streets and were
looting stores, making protests and it looked like a battleground. Also, one
funny thing I remember from group one’s presentation was that the first slide
they had on said: “Our Elections Matters To Us In Our Democracy” and they
presented that on November 3rd, which is election day here in The United States. What a coincidence right? Or was it done on purpose? I also
remember our professor noticed that too which is why I remember this. Their
subtopics all had one thing in common and it was how to make a peaceful protest.
They talked about how to capture the audience's attention, ways that could help
you make a better presentation of your topic, how to speak properly when
presenting, and how to motivate your audience when your presenting. I think I
learned a thing or two thanks to group one’s presentation.
Then
group two had Healthcare as their assigned topic. That topic may have been
boring if it was done a year ago, but thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, that
topic was very interesting also. They talked about the virus that spread around
the world and gave us information on how many people were being infected per
day as well as how many people were passing away per day, and those numbers
were not small, and compared to other diseases or viruses, COVID-19 was being
merciless to the whole world. They then provided information on the
requirements to have a healthcare system in the United States and how there are
different types of healthcare systems here already. They also talked about how
the healthcare system could be improved in the future like strategies for the United
States to lower the cost of health care. They explained why it was so expensive
too.
Lastly,
group three, we were the first ones to present but for the sake of it being “one,
two, and three” I left my group to the end of the blog. The topic we had
assigned was “Racial Divide and the Pandemic”. Not saying this because it was
my group, but we got the hottest topic out of the three. The pandemic that was
breaking hell lose around the world and the Black Life Matters movement that happened
not too long ago was the thing that most people talked about around these times.
Some of us, for example, I had to present both things mixed. For example, I
had to present “Disadvantages of Covid-19 Treatment In Regard To Race”. It was
very easy to explain because there were so many sources where you could see why
that was happening. The media was all about Covid-19 and the racial divide around
that time.
Very nice reflection.
